Flank Platform Hop (Inner Gams - Misc Gear Novice)
Signal Cascade · Mechanism
Nothing tests your faith in your own coordination quite like jumping sideways onto a raised surface while your brain is screaming that forward is the only safe direction. You stand next to a short platform, dip into a quick quarter-hunker, and then vault yourself laterally onto the box with the kind of confidence that only comes from either bravery or not having thought it through enough.
The sideways orientation is the key differentiator here, because it forces your adductors and abductors—those inner and outer thigh muscles that you've probably been ignoring since birth—to handle the entire braking and stabilizing workload upon landing. Your quadriceps and glutes still contribute to the launch, but the deceleration belongs to the side muscles. That's a good thing, because strong adductors are what keep your knees from caving inward during everything from running to hunkering, and knee valgus is about as fun as it sounds.
Land in the center of the platform with both feet simultaneously, absorbing the impact like you're catching a fragile package. Then hop to the opposite side and repeat, treating each transition as its own mini-set of balance and power. The temptation to rush is real, but control is what transforms this from a party trick into actual athletic development. Clear those feet, stick the landing, and remember: gravity is always waiting for you to get sloppy. Don't give it the satisfaction.
